How to help your child develop their reading skills

Reading
The children are encouraged to read for enjoyment and understanding, as well as for information. Reading books are sent home daily with a reading diary, which is completed by the parent and child. We aim to work in partnership with parents when developing children’s reading skills and offer support and guidance on how to achieve this at home to those parents who feel less confident.

We have termly reading competitions in school and reward children for taking part, celebrating their success in special assemblies.

We encourage the children to borrow books from the school library and class libraries. We also encourage the children to visit libraries in our local area and take part in a summer reading challenge each year.
